Ok, so I'm 19 years old, and probably still too young to really truely think about how fast time is going, but sometimes it just hits me in little drips and drabs. I mean I dont dwell on it or anything. Im not one of those people that says, "holly crap I've wasted my life, and now there isnt enough time left to do all the things I want to do." Although, if I was around the age of 40, and all I had done with my life was have a High School Certificate, Done around 2 years of Tafe, Worked at Woolworths as a checkout operator, and still lived with my parents the yes, I would say; "crap I have wasted my life". No offence to the 40 year olds still living with their parents working in a job a 15 year old can do.
Anyway last night it kinda did hit me how time does indeed fly. You see I was working till close, all the way down on register 15 by myself, and it being sunday well, it wasnt very busy and so I was very bored. So as I stood there I listened to the music provided by "Woolworths radio", which you will only hear in Woolworths because if it was a real radio station... you wouldn't listen to it.
So as I stood there bored, tapping the tune "No one Knows" on my register I heard a familiar song. I mean they are all familiar to me, its what happens when you have a small playlist that you loop 24 hours a day.
No it was one of those songs you hear that you had heard at a certain time, and so it brings back memories. You see for me, a lot of music brings back memories of High School, as I heard a lot of music then. For Example; The offsprings, "Original Prnakster" I first heard when I was in year 7 I believe, but it brings back memories of Year 8 because it was always played during Music. Understand.
Well the song I heard last night was "Big yellow Taxi", by Counting Crows. This song was part of a Geography assignment back in year 10, which for me was in 2003. Now I know 4 years isn't really a long time, when you look at the big picture, but still it can be a scary thought. Because I remember it plane as day. The classroom, the teacher, and I remember it being around the time of summer, as they had the warnings of not wearing boardshorts to school. (as if anyone ever listened.) But I do find it funny how a particular song can in some small way make you remember a part of your life. Sure you can purposly look back and remonise about your past, but I mean something that just rememinds you of it, when you had no intention of thinking about it.
So far 19 years has past in my life, and I remember thinking once upon apon a time that that was old. I think every young kid does. It just seems forever away, but once you get there, it doesnt feel like it has taken long.
You know what else is funny? How when we get older our thoughts and ideas change. Why is that? We are exactly the same as we were before, are we not? Do we come up with these Ideas by ourselves, or do we find them someplace else, like our friends, or whats on TV.
I dont know. Remember what your dream job was as a kid? I do, but mine was never really specific. I was never one of those kids that said; I want to be a Fireman, or an Astronaut, or an Actor. I said I wanted to be an artist. But you see, my thoughts on being an artist was drawing, or doing something creative, and somehow make money off of that. Yes, even as a kid I had the idea of doing as little as possible to make money. lol.
Wow, I just realised this is a long post. Better have an intermission.
INTERMISSION
Hi, Welcome Back.
Well not too much has changed from the whole artist, being creative point of view. I still like to be creative, but now I have a bit more direction. Thats why I'm doing Digital Media at Tafe. I got into the digital side of being creative only 2 years ago actually. It was at the very begining of the year 2005.
There was a certain stage in my life where i really liked the whole idea of movies. I dont know where it came from, but since it hit me I have had a passion for cinema. I dont know if it was because my dad took me to see movies with him as a kid, and seeing them on the big screen really wowed me. Actually. Come to think of it. Maybe it was dad. He was the one who introduced me to Star Wars back when I was only around the age of 4. Maybe even earlier. I watched them on a tape recorded when they were on TV. He took me to the RAAF base cinema a few times as well. I remember seeing; Independence Day, Lost in Space, Apolo 13. I also Saw 2 Star Trek movies in the old Cinema where La Porchetta is now. And when Lucas re-did Star Wars we went and saw it at Forum 6 Cinemas. Maybe dad did have a large influence my love for movies. Anyway Im getting off track.
Before I went off track up there I was going to talk about how I decided to to Digital media. You see it was back in 2004, and I was doing year 11 exams. Importent ones. (aparently. Too bad i failed most. lol). Anyway this exam was sooo important that they decide to write a notice on the board about summer school. Lucky I read it. Thats right, I said stuff the exam, im reading whatever is on the board. lol.
So anyway I enquired about this summer school, in the summer of 2005, I went. It was good fun. They were my first days in Photoshop, and editing Film. It was free to go, you just had to be accepted. free food, plus $250.00 at the end. Not bad huh. I liked the idea of this and so am now doing the corse.
And what do I one day hope to achieve? Well, from being a kid who wanted to make money as an artist, I know now what I want to do to make money that involves artistic direction. Movies. I wish to be a Writer / Director. But not before I travel. You see like I began with, time flys. So I might as well travel whilst im still young. You only live once as they say.
Sorry this was a long post. If you have reached the end... Feel good about yourself. lol
